Enhancing digital connectivity and empowering underserved regions, the Government of India, through the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), has launched the 4G Saturation Project to bring 4G connectivity to villages across the nation. In Goa, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been entrusted as the implementing agency to execute this initiative under the guidance of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India.
As part of this project, BSNL, in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C), Government of Goa, has identified 66 strategic locations across Goa to install new mobile towers aimed at addressing the connectivity challenges faced by underserved areas.
To ensure seamless digital access for communities in remote and unconnected regions, furthering the vision of a digitally inclusive India, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Printing & Stationery, Rohan A. Khaunte, announced the successful installation of eleven BSNL 4G mobile towers in Assodem, Charvane, Cudcem, Melauli, Karaswada, Warchawada, Naneli, Morpila, Sancordem, Shirdode, and Shiroda at Mantralaya, Porvorim.
Dr. Sawant emphasised the importance of these initiatives in driving digital inclusion, “Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision, the future of Goa is Digital. With this launch, Goa is taking a significant step forward leveraging technology to empower citizens to unlock new opportunities. The 4G Mobile towers will ensure seamless connectivity across the state towards a digitally inclusive and innovative Goa.”
Khaunte, highlighted the potential of this project to empower citizens and businesses alike. He said, “The launch of eleven 4G BSNL Mobile Towers marks a significant step toward bridging the digital divide within the villages and enabling residents of Goa to benefit from high-speed mobile connectivity. The installation of these mobile towers represents a pivotal milestone in providing citizens access to crucial services such as e-governance, telemedicine, digital education, and financial inclusion, thereby accelerating socio-economic development.
