Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the 2025 IEEE 4th International Conference on Smart Technologies for Power, Energy and Control (STPEC 2025) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa on Thursday. NIT Goa hosted the conference from 10th to 13th December on its campus.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. Sawant , commended the institute for bringing together leading experts from academia, industry, and research to advance India’s energy future. Talking about India’s significant progress in expanding electricity access, strengthening power distribution, and scaling renewable energy integration through national initiatives such as the National Smart Grid Mission, the Smart Meter National Programme, the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, and various smart-grid pilot projects, the Chief Minister said that Government of India’s efforts had laid a strong foundation for modernizing the energy sector and improving grid reliability across the country.
Dr. Sawant called upon industry and startups to scale solutions suited to Indian conditions. He also urged academic institutions to accelerate translational research from laboratories to real-world applications.
Expressing confidence in the value of the conference, the Chief Minister said that the four-day discussions would contribute meaningfully to the state and the nation.
Director of NIT Goa Prof. Omprakash Jaiswal said that he was proud that a new institute, which is just 15 year old, could organise a seminar of that stature, where technologists, academicians, and researchers across the globe have gathered to deliberate on Smart Power and Smart Energy.
B Raja Gopal Naidu, Chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Goa, was the Guest of Honour at the event. General Chair of STPEC 2025, Prof. Huang-Jen Chiu from NTUST Taiwan, and Prof. Pradyumn Chaturvedi from VNIT Nagpur, and General Co-Chair Dr. Suresh Mikkili from NIT Goa were also present along with invited speakers, faculty members, students, staff members and other participants.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is one the world’s largest technical professional organisations dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE International Conference on STPEC is the flagship conference of IEEE Bombay Section.
The previous versions of STPEC were held at VNIT Nagpur in the years 2020, CEC Bilaspur in 2021 and KIIT Bhubaneswar in 2023. All the papers presented at the NIT Goa conference will be submitted to IEEE Xplore for possible publication subject to fulfilling the IEEE eligibility criteria.
