4TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF CORPORATE COMPANY SECRETARIES INAUGURATED

The 4th National Conference of Corporate Company Secretaries of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) was inaugurated on 27 July 2023. The theme of the conference is ‘Governance for Sustainability: Curating Excellence.’

Jaspal Singh, IPS, Director General of Police, Goa, presided over as the Guest of Honour. Shrinivas V. Dempo, Chairman, Dempo Group of Companies, was the Keynote Speaker. Avelina D’sa E Pereira, Under Secretary (Higher Education), Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa, was also present.

Congratulating, all Company Secretaries on their evolved role in the Corporate Sector, Jaspal Singh said “An investor perceives an investment to be safe only when the Business complies with the laws of the land and Company Secretaries play that dynamic role of ensuring that security to all stakeholders. He further added that as the Key Advisors to the Board, Company Secretaries curb the incentivization of non-compliances.

Shrinivas V. Dempo appreciated the Institute for choosing an appropriate theme for the Conference as Sustainable Governance will lead the country to becoming the 3rd largest economy in the world as desired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He also acknowledged that Company Secretaries are undertaking complex tasks and are responsible for the growing reputation and credibility of the country. India.

Avelina D’sa E Pereira spoke about how the MoU between the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa and the ICSI, will open the doors of professional learning and development for the students of Goa and build their capacities. She also mentioned opening two Study Centres in collaboration with the ICSI in North & South Goa each.

Echoing the thoughts of the guest CS Manish Gupta, President, the ICSI, said that as ambassadors of good governance, Company Secretaries have been at the forefront of synchronizing businesses with governance and sustainability. He also mentioned that Conferences like this are an opportunity to further discuss and build capacities.

The two-day event is set to witness Leaders from trade and industry, senior corporate professionals, corporate directors, senior officers from the government, and other stakeholders who will deliberate on the following technical sessions spanning two days:

Securing Workplaces: Sustaining Gender Diversity
RPT: Balancing Conflicting Interests.
AI: The nuances of Digital Transformation

A special session by Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, Padma Shri & Arjuna Awardee, is also planned on the second day of the Conference on 28th July 2023.
