PANAJI: Nirmala Institute of Education Altinho, a premium educational institute, established in 1963 by the Society of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary; formed and installed its own science club ‘Scinergy’ with modern state of art science laboratory on 4th August at the Nirmala Institute premises at here in Goa, stated a press note.
The club endeavours to improve scientific attitude of the future education imparters /B.Ed. trainees, and provide opportunities for practices in scientific methodology to better quip our future generations; among other aspects, namely –
-to educate/ update the future education imparters/B.Ed. trainees, with the knowledge of ancient/past/recent inventions, discoveries in the field of science.
-to empower the educators/BEd trainees, to train develop students, inters and participation in the practical application of the knowledge related to different branches of science. To integrate interest in scientific facts and events related to one’s surroundings.
-to develop interest in scientific hobbies. To encourage individual and group activities. To stimulate active participation and initiative among students in the learning process.
With its mission to enable educators/B.Ed trainees to make learning of science joyful, caters to freedom for expression, whereas the classroom atmosphere leads to conformity and repression. While participating in a science club students organize thought and translate these into action and thereby develop a zealous enthusiasm to strive for the cause of scientific enterprise.
-to bridge in-school and out-of-school learning and foster the development of skills, such as experimentation, critical thinking, and problem solving. By giving our members a supportive environment to explore science, we are also building more confident learners and educators.
-to channelise the energies of students and make use of their skills and talents, which satisfy their instincts and urges and helps in their overall personality development, work in association with classroom instruction of science subjects, helps in the development of scientific attitude, and develop genuine interest in science and scientific activities, supplements the work of the classroom and the laboratory and parts the syllabus on a practical bias.
-to make children aware, the tendencies they have to make things, break things and handle things on their own but the conventional system of education does not allow them to do so. Self-expression, independent research, constructive activities, etc., are some of the opportunities provided by the science clubs. In the classrooms, the students work formally and restrict themselves to the school curriculum. Whereas in science clubs, there are no restrictions and the students can work on their own ideas with full freedom.
Dr. Delia Antao, Principal NIE (Officiating) in the presence of Pratiksha Shirodkar, Asst. Prof (Science) & Coordinator Science Club along with other Faculty and club members, inaugurated the new science lab in the premises on the occasion, with purpose being to help educators/B.Ed Trainees to develop a broad array of basic skills and tools of teaching and studying Physics/Chemistry & Biology.
An online, Riddle quiz for the First & Second Year Trainees in non-Science methodology on the theme” General Science ”, was organised on the occasion and prizes awarded to the winners.
