International Women’s Day 2023 has become a memorable day for Raksha Dangui, a person with spinal cord injury. She will now be able to move without another person’s assistance, thanks to Goa State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
Dangui, who received a motorised wheelchair on Wednesday as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, thanked Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for PwDs.
“Now that I have a motorised wheelchair, I can effortlessly move from one location to another without anyone’s assistance. Being self-sufficient is a wonderful feeling”, she said.
A motorised wheelchair had been requested by Dangui’s mother when the State Commissioner visited her house a few days ago.
Pawaskar said: “Today, assistive technology and devices play an important role in enriching the lives of people with disabilities. Assistive technology and devices have made many people with disabilities self-reliant. Besides, they have excelled in various fields”.
Kedar Naik, MLA of Saligao constituency, was also present and congratulated the State Commissioner and assured all possible assistance to Dangui, who is facing major issue with regards to proper motorable access to her house, stated a press release.
