Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) Miramar unit organised a ‘Tree Walk’ with Dr Maryanne Lobo at the Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr premises, Alto-Porvorim, on Sunday.
Around 40 nature enthusiasts participated in the immensely informative programme wholeheartedly supported by Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr director, Dr Pandurang Phaldesai and Green Ray Foundation managing trustee and former Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Tomazinho Cardozo among others.
Celebrating ‘Vanamahotsav’, youngsters in the group planted saplings to kickoff the ‘Tree Walk’ amidst heavy showers. Following a short break for a cup of hot tea and delicious Goan traditional sweet ‘Shirvolyo’, the gathering trooped out for the walk in the greens.
Dr Maryanne Lobo then introduced and explained various types of medicinal plants native to the State of Goa and are a treasure of a collection at the Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr. She also revealed tremendous health benefits of plants that grow on their own in most of the gardens and are weeded out due to ignorance.
YHAI Miramar unit has planned more programmes in their endeavour to conserve biodiversity.
