Panaji city is set to undergo a transformation into a ‘Renewable Energy’ city with maximum thrust being put on Solar Energy. Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant announced the plan on Saturday and also urged the stakeholders to join the initiative that also involves producing biogas from wet waste.
The Chief Minister attended and addressed the Panaji City Workshop on Solar Rooftop System organised by the Government of Goa in collaboration with Goa Energy Development Agency, German Cooperation and GIZ.
“Panaji aims to maximise the use of Renewable Energy, especially solar by installing roof-top solar system on government and private commercial buildings as well as the Residential buildings in the city,” stated Dr Sawant, who also pointed out that only 10 to 20 percent of daily requirement of Energy for the establishments can come from solar due to lack of rooftop area. Hence, to make Panaji 100 percent ‘Renewable Energy’ city; all consumers need to install solar or purchase solar with group net-metering and virtual net -metering being adopted.
