Asian Games silver-medallist Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal with a New Meet Record in 100m hurdles while Decathlon silver-medallist from Asian Games Hangzhou,Tejaswin Shankar is leading the pack by a big margin at the halfway stage, at the 37th National Games Goa 2023 as the Track and Filed competition saw great array of stars and young talents on the second day at the SAG Athletics Stadium at Bambolim on Monday.
Maharashtra’s young sensation Tejas Shirse bettered his own record in 110m hurdles and set a New Meet Record, to make it three national titles in a row this month.
Jyothi of Andhra Pradesh broke her own National Games record set in Gandhinagar last year (13.30) with an effort of 13.22sec today riding high on confidence after her stellar effort earlier this month to bag silver medal at Asian Games with a timing of 12.91sec.
Also a national record holder in high jump, Tejaswin of Delhi is at the top of the Decathlon standings at the end of five events comprising – 100m sprint, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. He has accumulated 4062 points and will resume his charge for the gold medal in the morning.
Earlier, Tejaswin took 11.18sec for the sprint before the long jump best attempt at 7.27m, 12.07m in shot put, 2.17m in high jump and clocked 50.56 sec in the 400m.
Thowfeeq N of Kerala is in second place with 3647 points. He ran a very determined 100m dash with same timing as Tejaswin but fell behind in the jumps and shotput before winning the 400m with a timing of 49.92m.
The 21-year-old Tejas Shirse came into the 37th National Games with back to back triumph in National U-23 championship and National Open championship. He was absolutely dominant in the 110m hurdles event as he broke his own record in defending the gold medal with 13.71sec timing. In 20km race walk for women, Priyanka Goswami of UP set a New Meet Record with a timing of 1:36:35.00.
