A significant impact of the International Purple Fest Goa 2024, organised by the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, was the distribution of state-of-the-art modular Below-Knee and Above-Knee Prosthesis at no cost.
The assessment which took place at Rugnashraya in Kalapur, Tiswadi, last week gathered a huge response. Thus, the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities decided to extend the time allow for more distribution of the prosthesis at no cost.
Minister of Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai, said: “I am extremely overwhelmed by the response of people who came to avail modular Below-Knee and Above-Knee Prosthesis. We wish that more people of Goa should benefit from the distribution of prosthesis to lead better and joyful lives. The International Purple Fest-Goa, 2024, made this positive change and we thus have planned to extend this distribution as we want people of Goa to benefit.”
State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar, expressed that there needs to be more awareness about the distribution Below-Knee and Above-Knee Prosthesis so that more people can avail of this benefit. He said, “The response so far has been really good. And I am happy that many have benefitted by availing below-knee and above-knee amputees. However, we have decided to extend this initiative so that more can benefit from it. Prosthetics can help people lead more fulfilling lives and people should spread the word.”
This commendable initiative is made possible through collaboration with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Rugnashraya, Bambolim. The collective aim is to improve the quality of life for individuals in need of prosthetic limbs. All that is required is a ration card and Adhar card.
