The Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) course, initiated by the Office of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities through an MoU with the prestigious National Institute Ali Yavar National Institute of Speech & Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD) under the DePwD, MSJ&E and Govt. of India in association with Goa University has begun at the Goa University Campus, Taleigao Plateau, Goa.
The launch of the DTISL course signifies Goa’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their abilities. By nurturing skilled sign language teachers, the state is taking a proactive step towards ensuring that deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals have access to quality education and can fully participate in society.
State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar said: “It is a landmark achievement for us in Goa to witness the commencement of the Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) course at Goa University. The course will equip students to be effective SignLanguage Teachers and gain employment opportunities in the future. This is a significant step towards creating an inclusive society.”
The initiative is part of the MoU signed between the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, AYJNISHD and Goa University to commence several more courses. The Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) course is expected to significantly contribute to the field of inclusive education and empowerment in the state of Goa.
