Girl students from Scheduled Tribe community, can get financial assistance in the form of fixed deposit of Rs 25,000. This scheme is known as Vidya Laxmi and is implemented by Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Government of Goa.
The Vidya Laxmi scheme is applicable to ST girl students who have passed 10th standard examination and take admission in the 11th standard in any stream. The benefit is released to the beneficiary after she passes Std 12th. The girl student’s eligibility also depends on family income with the criteria being that the annual family income of this student shall not exceed Rs 3 lakh.
This scheme is valuable for low-income ST families as it ensures that students can take care of their bulk of expenditure and not worry about their basic expenses. As such, the government support enables the girls to focus on their education and dream of charting out a career path.
