Government of Goa on Wednesday, hosted a special function to honour the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the Goa Liberation struggle.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant presented a Certificate of Honour and Rs.10 lakh to the martyrs’ first-generation heirs ahead of the 63rd Goa Liberation Day; as a tribute to the supreme sacrifice, for Goa’s liberation from nearly 450 years of oppressive Portuguese colonial rule.
The Chief Minister stated: “In 2022, I had the honor of visiting and felicitating the Veerpatni of Martyr Shri Karnail Singh Benipal in Haryana, whose contribution to the struggle remains etched in our hearts. Today, we paid homage to the families of brave martyrs, Shri Bala Raya Mapari, Basavraj Hudgi, Sheshnath Wadekar, Tulshiram Balkrishna Hirve, Baburao Keshav Thorat, Sakharam Shirodkar, Rohidas Mapari, Yeshwant Agarwadekar, Ramchandra Nevgi, Bapu Vishnu Gavas, Babla Parab, Laxman Velingkar, Keshavbhai Tengse, and Parshuram Acharya.”
“This recognition and felicitation by our Government reflect our unwavering commitment to honor and remember the sacrifices of these freedom fighters and their families. Their courage and dedication paved the way for Goa’s liberation, and it is our solemn duty to ensure their legacy is cherished for generations to come,” added Dr Sawant.
