Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant distributed Financial Assistance to State Sports Associations, Sports Clubs and individual sportspersons at Mantralaya, Porvorim, on Tuesday.
On the occasion, Sports Authority of Goa released grants amounting to approximately Rs. 2.15 Crore to recognised sports associations by SAG, towards financial assistance and cash awards for players. This includes participation grants for zonal, federation cup, national, and international championships, as well as organisational grants for conducting zonal, national, and international championships. Individual sportspersons excelling at the national and international level, who were rewarded, are as follows: Anura Prabhudesai, Dr. Nhehern Acharya, Yash Padloskar, Pearl Colvalcar, Sakshi Kale, Vidyat Lotlikar, Umesh Dhavlikar.
A total of 46 Associations & 123 Clubs were the beneficiaries on the day. “We are empowering athletes, uplifting rural talent, and building a budding sports culture in the state,” emphasised the Chief Minister.
“These grants reaffirm our commitment to building an inclusive, competitive, and well-supported sports culture. Our Government is committed to building a sports culture that is inclusive, competitive, and well-supported. The grants being disbursed today will help improve training centers, hire coaches, organize tournaments, and bring rural talent into the mainstream,” asserted Dr Sawant.
Highlighting the positive impact of sports on character-building, the Chief Minister also stressed on the necessity to build a generation that is disciplined, healthy, and motivated through sports. “Let’s reach every child, every village, every school-and inspire them to embrace sports as a way of life,” summed up Dr Sawant.
