FOSTERING SPIRIT OF ENTERPRISE: HOW EDII GOA CENTRE IS EMPOWERING YOUTH TO CHOOSE ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS A CAREER

0

In today’s fast-changing world, where industries are constantly evolving and job roles are becoming increasingly dynamic, the traditional concept of career security is being redefined. Amidst this transformation, entrepreneurship is emerging as a powerful and meaningful career choice — one that offers not only economic opportunity but also personal fulfilment, social impact, and creative independence.

Recognising this growing aspiration among young minds, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) – Goa Centre, under the EDC CSR Initiative, has launched a mission to guide and support the youth of Goa in their entrepreneurial journeys. Through a range of structured programmes, the EDII Goa Centre aims to inspire students to see entrepreneurship not merely as a business venture, but as a way to shape the future — both their own and that of their state.

❖ Awakening the Entrepreneurial Mindset Early One of the core focus areas of the EDII Goa Centre is to promote entrepreneurial awareness among students through its Entrepreneurship Awareness Programmes (EAPs). Delivered across colleges, these sessions are designed to cultivate curiosity, encourage problem-solving, and introduce students to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. By engaging them in interactive discussions, ideation exercises, and exposure to real-life business models, the programme helps demystify entrepreneurship and presents it as an exciting, viable, and rewarding career option.
For many students, this becomes their first step into a world where they are encouraged to ask questions, challenge norms, and think independently — qualities that are at the heart of every successful entrepreneur.

From Ideas to Enterprises: Guided Pathways to Success
While generating interest is essential, turning that interest into action is what truly drives change. To support aspiring entrepreneurs in this crucial next step, the EDII Goa Centre offers Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs) and Advanced EDPs (AEDPs). These training initiatives provide aspiring and existing entrepreneurs with practical tools to build, manage, and sustain their businesses.
The curriculum is comprehensive and grounded in real-world application. Participants are introduced to key concepts such as opportunity identification, market research, business planning, financial management, and sustainability strategies. What makes these programmes impactful is the personalised approach — helping each individual shape their idea into a practical and scalable enterprise.
By nurturing this progression from awareness to action, the Centre ensures that talent is not lost to inaction but is channelled into enterprise creation and economic contribution.

❖ A Broader Impact: Shaping Goa’s Economic Landscape
The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) – Goa Centre has emerged as a transformative force in shaping the economic narrative of Goa. With a vision that transcends individual capacity-building, the Centre is firmly rooted in a broader mission: to bolster Goa’s economic fabric by embedding entrepreneurship deep within the grassroots.
A key aspect of this vision is the Centre’s strategic focus on inclusive growth through entrepreneurship promotion among underserved and rural communities. By working closely with various government bodies and international institutions, EDII Goa Centre has been instrumental in launching and implementing several impactful programmes across the state.

One such initiative is the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP)-based Business Management Training (BMT), designed for existing MSMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs. This RAMP Programme is supported by the Ministry of MSME and the World Bank, and implemented in collaboration with the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce (DITC), Goa. This initiative focuses on equipping MSME entrepreneurs with the necessary managerial and business development skills.

The other program under RAMP — Transforming SHGs to MSMEs (TSM) — aims to transform SHGs into formal Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), thereby creating avenues for sustainable livelihoods and economic inclusion.
Further reinforcing its grassroots outreach, EDII Goa Centre has successfully conducted several other community-centric training and capacity-building programmes:

·        Livelihood Cadre Training Programmes under GSRLM (Goa State Rural Livelihoods Mission), implemented in association with DRDA, aimed at skilling women in various income-generating activities.
·        Pre-SARAS Training for SHG Members under DRDA, designed to prepare SHG participants for participation in the national SARAS Mela exhibitions, enhancing their product presentation, marketing skills, and entrepreneurial outlook.
·        Scoping Studies under DRDA, undertaken to identify potential livelihood opportunities and entrepreneurial gaps in rural regions of Goa, enabling evidence-based interventions and tailored training strategies.
·        In collaboration with DRDA, EDII as National Resource Organization (NRO) is extending implementation support to GSRLM in SVEP in two blocks of Goa. Additionally, training of CRP-EPs under Micro Enterprise Development (MED) is being conducted. These two programs are ongoing.
·        Three-Day Entrepreneurship Training under NULM (National Urban Livelihoods Mission) in collaboration with GSUDA (Goa State Urban Development Agency), focusing on building urban self-employment capacity and business skills among SHG members and the urban poor.
These diverse programmes are not just isolated interventions; they are part of a cohesive strategy to formalise the informal sector, particularly empowering women and marginalised communities to move from subsistence to sustainability. By improving business acumen, enhancing access to markets, and fostering innovation across various sectors, EDII Goa Centre is working to cultivate a robust, self-sustaining entrepreneurial ecosystem in Goa.

This integrated and inclusive approach has started to ripple through the state’s socio-economic landscape. Small businesses are being formalised, entrepreneurial aspirations are being nurtured, and women are stepping into leadership roles within their communities. As more Goans embrace entrepreneurship, the state’s economic dependency on traditional sectors is giving way to a more dynamic, diverse, and resilient economic model.
By aligning skill development with evolving market demands and by fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship, EDII Goa Centre is not only enabling individuals to dream and achieve but is also laying the foundation for Goa to emerge as a vibrant entrepreneurship hub — one that resonates with inclusive growth, empowerment, and long-term economic sustainability.

❖ A Call to Goa’s Youth: Build the Future, Be the Future
As Goa aspires to become a thriving entrepreneurship hub, it is the youth who hold the keys to that transformation. The EDII Goa Centre believes that the young generation, with its creativity, resilience, and adaptability, is uniquely positioned to lead this change.

Whether you are a student with a spark of an idea, a recent graduate eager to create impact, or simply someone who believes in shaping your own destiny — entrepreneurship is a journey worth considering. With the right guidance, training, and support, turning that ambition into reality is no longer a distant dream.

The programmes offered by EDII Goa are not just about building businesses — they are about building confidence, self-reliance, and a sense of purpose. To learn more or to be a part of the upcoming initiatives, students and aspiring entrepreneurs can visit the EDII Goa Office at:
