Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF) by GWMC in collaboration with Ponda Envocare Limited (PEL) in and GIEMA at Pissurlem Industrial Estate, Sattari on Thursday.
Dr Sawant emphasised on the significance of the project that comes at an investment of over Rs 125 Crores through the Public-Private Partnership model. “This state-of-the-art facility will serve Goa for the next 100 years, ensuring scientific and sustainable treatment of hazardous waste,” stated the Chief Minister.
With the facility now coming into the stellar infrastructure of Goa Waste Management Corporation, all industries in Goa are expected to route hazardous waste exclusively through PEL, under strict monitoring by GWMC.
The CHWTSDF project has come up under the guidance by eminent experts like Padma Shri Dr. Sharad Kale, the plant is designed to ensure zero negative impact on local communities. Moreover, local employment opportunities are also generated.
