In the villages of Goa and across several states, quiet revolutions are changing lives. A girl who once thought college was out of reach now studies with the Vedanta Utkarsh Scholarship. A mother who once travelled miles for medical care now receives affordable treatment close to home through Project Aarogya. A young woman who had never touched a computer now navigates the digital world confidently, thanks to the Vedanta Computer Centres. These stories, multiplied thousands of times, reflect the spirit of empowerment that Vedanta Sesa Goa has nurtured over years. This International Women’s Day, Vedanta Sesa Goa reaffirms its commitment to fostering lasting transformation through meaningful women empowerment.
Sharing his views, Navin Jaju, CEO, Vedanta Sesa Goa said, “At Vedanta Sesa Goa, we believe that empowering women is the cornerstone of building resilient communities. Our initiatives in the field of education, empowerment through sports at the Sesa Football Academy, nurturing futures through technical skilling at the Sesa Technical School, bridging the digital divide through the Vedanta Computer Centres & Labs, promoting entrepreneurial aspirations through vocational training have helped create pathways for progress for thousands of women. Our workforce benefits from the diversity and resilience of our ‘iron ladies’, and together we reaffirm our commitment for a #ViksitBharat.”
In FY26 alone, over 6,000 women benefitted from Vedanta Sesa Goa’s education focussed Project Vriddhi, while Project Aarogya provided basic affordable healthcare at the doorstep of more than 42,000 community members across states-most of them women-through mobile health units, awareness drives, and medical and eye camps. To bridge the digital divide, Vedanta Sesa Goa has set up 19 computer labs and seven Computer Centres, under the aegis of the Vedanta Foundation, enabling over 3,000 girls and women to gain crucial digital skills and access new vistas.
Vocational training under Project Jeevika has given women the chance to upskill and generate income. The Vedanta Tailoring Training Centres have turned innate skills into livelihood opportunities. Shanti Pradeep Hadfadkar from Maem, Bicholim Taluka shared, “For women like me, stepping out to learn something new is a big step. The Vedanta Tailoring Training Centre has given me the courage to dream and the confidence to support my family.”
The Sesa Football Academy (SFA) has built a vibrant ecosystem for women’s football, with the Vedanta Women’s League powering the aspirations of more than 1,400 players. Their success has fuelled the resurgence of Goan football nationally, with teams regularly featuring in the Indian Women’s League. In 2025, the SFA Senior Women’s Team, established just two years earlier, lifted the VWL trophy and proudly represented Goa in the IWL. Aroshi Govekar, who recently received her maiden call-up to the India Senior National Team, said, “It’s a dream come true to wear the Indian jersey. This moment is not just a personal achievement, but the result of years of dedication, passion, and hard work. I’m deeply grateful to Sesa Football Academy, teammates and my family for their constant support. I will give more than my best to make the country and Goa proud.”
The Sesa Technical School (STS) has encouraged girls to pursue technical education, offering scholarships and specialized courses such as COPA to provide digital skilling and pathways to financial independence. Tanisha Gawas, an STS alumnus, shared, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to STS for the opportunities and guidance that has shaped my career. The training, discipline and confidence I have gained empowered me to step into the professional world with determination & towards the realisation of my dreams and aspirations.”
Even in the field of mining operations, Vedanta Sesa Goa has been increasingly empowering women through opportunities and today, its diversity quotient stands at ~26% against an industry average of 8%.
What makes these initiatives remarkable is not just their scale but the human stories behind them. Each scholarship, each training session, each football match, and each opportunity created represents a step toward equality and lasting transformation. Together, they form a mosaic of empowerment that is reshaping communities and inspiring futures, the true essence of reaffirming commitment on International Women’s Day and building a more equal and prosperous tomorrow, stated a press release.
