Tanvi Hadkonkar topped “Queen’s Gambit 2026,” an all-Goa women’s chess tournament, organised by
Mormugao Taluka Chess Association (MTCA).
Sponsored by MTCA President Sujan Sukhtankar, the grand event saw an overwhelming response with 103 participants from across the state showcasing their skills on the chess board.
The tournament was conducted under the expert supervision of Dr. Pradnya Sachin Kakodkar from Queens Club, Bambolim who served as the Chief Arbiter for the event.
In a display of sharp strategy and focus, Tanvi Hadkonkar won the tournament. WCM Gunjal Chopdekar was the runner-up. Other prize-winners are as follows: Vaishnavi Parab, Avani Sawaikar, Shrivalli Gandhi.
The tournament also recognised talent across various age groups and a special category for women above 25 years.
Above 25 Years Category: Shalini Agarwal, Amisha Rane, Kirti Mokashi, Anushka Naik, Alexandria Rebello, Preeti Parab, Fevy Rego, Mrunali Shirodkar, Vaishali Parab, and Vibha Borkar.
Age Group Winners: Under-15 Sayuri Prabhu Nasnodkar, Anvi Abhay Dessai, Under-13 Kaya Renee Coutinho, Diya Naik, Under-11 Tvisha Vallabha Dessai, Krutika Aggarwal; Under-9 Sidonia Dacunha, Amaira Borkar, Under-07 Sreeja Ditesh Ghanekar, Paaviya Pavankumar Naik.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Aisha Fernandes, Professor at Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi. The ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Dr. Rekha Poduwal, Dr. Jean Tellis, Priyanka Gaonkar, Pankaj Redkar of Yes Bank, Adv Komal Bandekar Tournament Director. The prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of chief guest Manali Subhash Parsekar, Shweta Ramnath Kukalenkar among others.
