The Mines Safety & Productivity Council (Goa, Sindhudurg & Kolhapur), under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), organised the Final Day function of the 42nd Mines Safety Week 2025–26 today in Goa. The event was hosted by Fomento Resources Private Limited.
The final day function was graced by Ramawatar Meena, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, Western Zone, Nagpur, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India as the Chief Guest. Others present on the dais included Ramesh Walikar, Convener – Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Director of Mines Safety, Goa Region ; Aftab Ahmad Director of Mines Safety – Mining, West Zone, Nagpur; P K Jain, Director of Mines Safety – Mechanical, West Zone, Nagpur; T. Srinivas, Director of Mines Safety – Electrical, West Zone Nagpur; Rajiv Kumar, President – Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Head- Mineral Resources Goa & Uttar Pradesh, Fomento Resources; Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Vice President – Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Dy. CEO, Vedanta Limited; and Sandeep Morajkar, Secretary – Mines Safety & Productivity Council and General Manager- Fomento Resources.
The objective of celebrating Mines Safety Week is to reduce accidents, prevent occupational hazards, and promote a zero-harm work environment in the mining industry. The event witnessed participation from mine managements, workers, government officials, and other stakeholders associated with the mining industry. 50 mines from Goa, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Raigad, and Ratnagiri regions participated in the Safety Week celebrations from 15th December to 20th December 2025.
As part of the 42nd Mines Safety Week, various activities such as Seminars, Trade tests across different disciplines, and First-Aider competitions were conducted to promote safety awareness and best practices in the mining industry.
The dignitaries were welcomed by Rajiv Kumar, President – Mines Safety & Productivity Council and Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Vice President – Mines Safety & Productivity Council while the Mines Safety Week Report was presented by Sandeep Morajkar, Secretary, Mines Safety & Productivity Council.
The function was addressed by Ramawatar Meena. A souvenir commemorating the occasion was released by the Chief Guest. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted through the hands of the Chief Guest and other dignitaries present on the dais. Vedanta Limited took over as the host of the next Mines Safety Week. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Sandeep Morajkar.
