The 29th Energy Technology Meet (ETM) commenced today at the ONGC Advanced Training Institute in South Goa, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and technology experts to explore innovations shaping India’s energy future. The event was inaugurated by Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri.
Organised by the Centre for High Technology (CHT) under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, and co-hosted by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), the three-day meet is themed “Accelerating Energy Innovation: From Research to Commercialisation.” The platform aims to strengthen collaboration across the energy value chain and accelerate the development and commercial adoption of emerging technologies.
As part of the Day 1 programme, Hardeep Singh Puri participated in a fireside chat with journalist Palki Sharma Upadhyay, discussing key priorities for India’s energy sector, including energy security, affordability, the energy transition and LPG supply diversification.
The Minister also visited the exhibition stalls, where technology providers, process licensors, engineering firms and energy companies showcased products, technologies and solutions for the downstream hydrocarbon sector. The exhibition provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, demonstrate technological advancements and explore solutions to emerging industry challenges.
Discussions on Day 1 also highlighted key government initiatives aimed at diversifying India’s energy mix and strengthening domestic energy production. GOBARdhan, the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, has an outlay of Rs. 23,731 crore for FY 2026–27 to FY 2035–36 to scale up compressed biogas production and support the growth of the circular bioeconomy.
Complementing these efforts, Samudra Manthan, the National Offshore Exploration Scheme, has an approved outlay of Rs. 84,084 crore up to FY 2030–31 to boost oil and gas exploration in deepwater and ultra-deepwater areas, strengthen domestic resource development and contribute to India’s long-term energy security.
LPG diversification also featured among the key focus areas, particularly in the context of strengthening supply resilience, ensuring fuel availability and maintaining affordability for consumers. The discussions underscored the importance of diversifying supply sources and developing a more resilient energy ecosystem to meet the country’s growing demand.
The Minister also interacted with the media during a press conference, addressing issues relating to India’s energy landscape, including fuel availability, energy security, the energy transition and initiatives to diversify energy sources.
The meet continues until October 29, featuring technical presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions and an exhibition. Key areas of focus include green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, carbon capture, crude-to-chemicals, biofuels and gas-based energy. The programme brings together experts from India and abroad to share research, exchange industry perspectives and identify opportunities to translate technological advances into commercially viable solutions.
MC² Ignite highlighted innovation in the energy sector, while a session with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) explored the creation of a start-up ecosystem in India. The programme also featured the Start-Up Awards and Refinery Performance & Innovation Awards, recognising technological advancements and innovation across the energy industry.
The 29th edition brings together domain experts and representatives from renewable energy, mobility, oil and gas, petrochemicals, research and development institutions, consulting firms, process licensors, catalyst manufacturers and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies.
The meet also features an R&D Conclave by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), focusing on Net Zero refineries, energy efficiency, green hydrogen, biomass valorisation, water management and emerging technologies, while fostering collaboration to accelerate innovation across India’s energy sector.
