Sesa Football Academy (SFA), the flagship CSR initiative of Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited, has qualified for the playoffs of the Indian Women’s League 2 (IWL-2) 2026 following an impressive unbeaten run in the group stage, registering two victories and a draw across three matches.
Sesa FA opened its campaign with a 1-0 win against Karnataka’s Misaka United FC, followed by a 1-1 draw against Delhi’s Rangers FC. The team concluded the group stage in emphatic fashion with a commanding 5-0 victory against Vedanta’s Zinc Football Academy from Rajasthan, securing its place in the playoffs scheduled for November 2026.
Demonstrating their attacking prowess, Simran Narvekar and Aniela scored two goals each, while Pearl Fernandez, Valaina Fernandes and Sulekha contributed one goal apiece.
Commenting on the achievement, Maymol Rocky, former coach of Indian Women’s Football Team, said: “It is encouraging to see Sesa Football Academy consistently raising the bar in women’s football. Their unbeaten performance in the IWL 2 group stage reflects the quality of training, discipline and opportunities being provided to these young athletes. Initiatives like these are instrumental in strengthening the women’s football ecosystem in India, creating pathways for young talent and inspiring more girls to pursue the sport professionally. I congratulate the team and wish them continued success.”
Simran Narvekar, captain, Sesa Football Academy, said: “I would like to thank Sesa Football Academy and Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited for providing us with the platform, guidance and support to pursue our dreams in football. Qualifying for the IWL 2 playoffs unbeaten is a proud moment for all of us and reflects the hard work and commitment of the entire team. As captain, it is heartening to see every player contribute to our journey. We are determined to carry this momentum forward and give our best in the playoffs.”
This achievement builds on SFA’s strong performance in the previous edition of IWL 2, where the team secured third place nationally and subsequently qualified for the Indian Women’s League (IWL). The academy’s continued progress reflects Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent, promoting women’s participation in sports and creating opportunities for aspiring athletes to compete at the national level.
With an unbeaten group-stage campaign behind them, SFA now looks forward to the November playoffs, aiming to carry its momentum forward and achieve another milestone in its journey.
