PANAJI: Blind Cricket Association Goa (BCAG) and Blind Welfare Association of Goa (BWAG) jointly-celebrated the ‘National White Cane Day’ at Shri Devkikrishna Temple hall, Marcela-Goa on Thursday (October 14).
Social worker Sandeep Nigale was the chief guest for the function. BCAG Secretary Paresh Phadte, BWAG President Milagris Costa, disability worker Prakash Kamat were also present.
Highlighting the importance of the day, a rally was also held at Marcela. Goa ‘Blind Cricket Team’ captain Yeshwant Nageshkar led the rally, which culminated at Shri Devkikrishna Hall.
People greeted the ‘White Cane’ with enthusiasm and empathy, which is an utmost requirement to enable the BWAG community settle into the mainstream.
A cultural programme was also staged that comprised sensitisation skit ‘Tsro Dolo’ and a singing competition.
Nigale urged the society to be empathetic and supportive towards the visually-impaired persons in the best possible way so they could assimilate into the mainstream. He was felicitated by Nageshkar for supporting the visually impaired cause. Phadte gave away the prizes. Vice-president of BCAG, Vishwasrao Nagvekar compered the programme; stated a press note issued by BCAG Treasurer, Yeshwant Nageshkar.
