ADVANCED-LEVEL RESEARCH WORKSHOP FOR SOCIAL SCIENCE FACULTY PHASE IV: FACULTY TO FACULTY PEER LEARNING IN SOCIAL SCIENCES EMPOWERS SOCIAL SCIENCE FACULTY IN GOA

The Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, organised a two-day advanced-level research workshop for social science faculty, aimed at enhancing their research skills and capabilities in Social Sciences to promote research in Goa. The ‘Faculty-to-Faculty Peer Learning in Social Sciences (Phase IV)’ workshop, held on September 18th and 19th, 2025, brought together educators to deliberate on modern research methodologies and data analysis tools.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Bhushan K. Savaikar, Director of the Directorate of Higher Education, who highlighted the crucial role of advanced research in addressing societal challenges. The workshop was expertly co-ordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Niyan Marchon and Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Majik, with Asst. Prof. Devmanoj Medisetty.

Dr. Sunil Kumar from the National Institute of Technology Goa served as the expert speaker, presenting on the topic of “Integrating Innovation, Intellectual Property, and Development Policy in Social Science Research.”

Participants engaged in a series of intensive peer learning sessions led by various faculty members. Key topics included statistical expressions and hypothesis formulation, statistical analysis using SPSS, quantitative data management, and qualitative data analysis with QGIS. The sessions provided a comprehensive overview of both traditional and modern approaches to social science research.

The workshop also delved into specialised areas such as utilising SPSS for public policy and election analysis, questionnaire development, and the leveraging of open-source tools for research. By focusing on practical application and technical proficiency, the workshop aimed to equip faculty with the necessary skills to conduct high-impact research, contributing to both academic excellence and evidence-based policy making in the region.

The successful conclusion of the workshop underscores the Directorate of Higher Education’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and research development among the academic community in Goa.
