Mandar Lad of Bardez, emerged the champion of AICF’s ‘Chess for Everyone’ Fide Rating Tournament 2023, conducted by Salcete Taluka Chess Association and Goa Chess Ad-hoc Committee. Top-seed Mandar (Fide rating 1961) remained unbeaten and collected 8.5 points from nine rounds to win the title and a cash prize of Rs. 21,000.
The tournament drew 65 rated players out of a total of 173 participants. Cash prizes amounting to Rs. 1 lakh and 88 trophies were given away.
In the final round, Mandar defeated 2nd-seed Aryan Shamrao Raikar(Fide Rating 1623). Paarth Salvi (1623) of Bardez finished the runner-up by beating Sachin Gaude (1485) of Ponda in the final round with 8 points to his name. He received a cash prize of Rs. 14,000. Ayush Pednekar (1590) finished third after winning against Alex Sequeira (1277), with 7 points in his kitty. He won a cash prize of Rs. 11,000.
Sairaj Dilip Vernekar (1580) of Salcete managed to outwit AFM Edrick Vaz.(1396) of Salcete in the final round to finish 4th with 7 points. Rupesh Ravindra Bate (1411) of Maharashtra defeated Saras Summer Powar (1321) of Goa to finish 5th with 7 points. Shaik Samad (1355) of Andhra Pradesh won against Parab Rishikesh (1436) due to forfeiture by the opponent to finish 6th with 7 points. Ekka Aniket (Mormugoa) and Tejas Verenkar (Salcete) finished 7th and 8th with 7 points. The 9th to 13th positions were taken by Sachin Gaude (Ponda), Aiden Grao (Tiswadi), Anish Naik (Ponda), Ishan Roy (Maharashtra) and Rachel Pereira (Salcete) respectively with 6.5 points each. The 14th to 20th placings were achieved by Aryan Raikar (Salcete), Parab Rishikesh (Mormagoa), Hriday Morajkar (Bardez), Sagar G Shenoy (Maharashtra), Alex Sequeira (Salcete), Adarsh Patekar (Pernem) and Saras Powar (Salcete) respectively with 6 points each.
Best Goa players prizes are as follows: 1st Aarth Karapurkar, 2nd Edrick Vaz, 3rd Sani Gawas, 4th Mahdiya Sayyed and 5th Chopdekar Aarav. Best Salcete Players prizes are as follows: 1st Shriya Patil, 2nd Joshua Telles, 3rd Jennica Sequeira, 4th Shubh Borkar, and 5th Atharva Sawal. Best Veteran above-50 years Prasad Naik and Best Woman player Hemangi Pednekar.
