Vivaan Agarwal, Darsh Pai, Rajnish Dhall and Allan-Ojaswi moved into the next round at the TNS Panjim Gymkhana all-Goa tennis tournament organised by Panjim Gymkhana under the aegis of Goa State Tennis Association. TNS Jewellers are the sponsors.
In the under-14 boys event, Vivaan Agarwal beat Alec Barreto 6-1, Darsh Pai brushed off the challenge of Vedant Naik 6-2, while Aarav got the better of Sairaj 6-3. Over in the men’s doubles, Allan/ Ojaswi prevailed over Mackinlay/ Dunstan 6-3.
Earlier, Alec Barreto exhibited his gritty mindset as he turned the tables on his rival with a fantastic fightback. Down 2-5 against Vihaan Krishnan, Alec fought for his survival first before winning five games on the trot to register a 7-5 victory in the single-set match.
In another match, Rafael Shankar, playing his first competitive event, beat Ashton Lobo 6-3.
In the 45+ Singles event, Rajnish Dhall, who took up tennis in the last few years, upset one of Goa’s top names, Pralay Bakshi 6-2. However, it was smooth sailing for Goa’s renowned racket-sport ace Noel Noronha, who brushed off Kishor Metry 6-1.
