The Women Development Cell and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St Joseph Vaz College, organised an awareness programme on the topic ‘Challenges Women Face During Menstruation’ for all female students and teachers.
Dr Charlton Cardoso, Managing Director, Zoe Health International served as the resource person. A total of 34 students and 18 staff benefitted from the programme.
The programme began with a short prayer service led by Dr Aureen Gomes, Assistant Professor in Microbiology. This was followed by a welcome address by the Administrator, Rev Prof Simao Diniz. The resource person, Dr Cardoso, then addressed the gathering. Dr Cardoso spoke of the problems faced by women during menstruation including itching, abdominal pain, rash, bad odour, heavy flow, etc. The causes and the effects of the problems were also discussed. Irregular cycle and early menopause were also discussed.
Dr Cardoso also demonstrated the difference between ordinary sanitary pads and those with a negative ion strip. In conclusion, the ones with the strip had advantages such as better absorption, no leakage, no itching and rash formation. He pointed out that the negative ion strip kills 99.9% of bacteria, thereby getting rid of itching and infection, supplies oxygen, keeps the uterus clean, and balances pH and also hormones.
Apart from the sanitary pads, Dr Cardoso also stressed the intake of vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli for controlling the estrogen levels in the blood which could otherwise cause havoc.
The session was very informative and useful for all the participants. The resource person kept the audience intrigued and engaged throughout the programme. The programme was compered by Muskan Kumari, Cultural Secretary of the college, stated a press release.
