Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has emphasised on adopting forward-looking policies to strengthen and expand the scope of tourism, ensuring Goa continues to shine as a world-class destination.

The Chief Minister chaired the 5th Meeting of the Goa Tourism Board at Mantralaya, Porvorim, in the presence of Tourism & IT Minister Rohan Khaunte, GTDC Chairman Dr Ganesh Gaonkar, the Chief Secretary, and other Board Members. On the occasion, GTDC handed over a dividend of Rs.45,29,382 for the year 2023-24.

Initiatives to promote cultural tourism, such as the Ekadasha Teerth Circuit, global campaigns to counter misinformation, familiarisation (FAM) tours, and targeted foreign media marketing campaigns, were discussed at the meeting. A single-window clearance system for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and weddings was proposed to attract more events to the state.

The meeting focused on deliberating and deciding on important matters to bolster Goa’s tourism sector. Key deliberation took place on Infrastructure development at cruise terminals, with plans to incorporate Wi-Fi, washrooms, pathways, lounges, hotels, waiting areas, faster security checks, and establishing Goa as a home port for cruise liners.

To enhance the transport services, the Board proposed regulated taxi fares at airports, railway stations, and cruise terminals, along with user-friendly service and offering uniform pricing. Stricter regulations for rent-a-car services were also recommended.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness at beaches and tourist spots, enhancing beach safety protocols, and addressing illegal constructions at key tourist locations.

“The Government of Goa and the Goa Tourism Board remain committed to receiving feedback and adopting forward-looking policies to strengthen and expand the scope of tourism, ensuring Goa continues to shine as a world-class destination,” stated Sawant on his social media.
