Shaheen C.K. capped off an incredible performance by clinching a brilliant double crown at the BPS State Badminton Ranking Tournament 2025, as Goa’s rising shuttlers once again proved their growing stature on the state’s senior stage.
Fresh from leading Goa to a spectacular Junior Team bronze medal win over Madhya Pradesh in the West Zone Championships last month, the in-form duo of Shaheen C.K. and Aswin Mannambalath carried their winning momentum into the senior circuit, displaying maturity and class well beyond their years.
The pair powered their way to the Men’s Doubles title, defeating second seeds Aryaman Saraf and Rudra Phadte 21-12, 21-14 in commanding fashion. Later, Shaheen returned to court with Ritika Chelluri to clinch the Mixed Doubles crown, overcoming top seeds Mayank Raj and Yasmin Sayed 21-13, 21-19, sealing a well-deserved double triumph.
Organised by BPS Sports Club, Margao, in aegis with Goa Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, the tournament held at Manohar Parrikar Indoor stadium, Navelim was the second of the three selection tournaments to shortlist players for the National championships.
The tournament also showcased the impressive depth of Goa’s young talent, many of whom were part of the junior bronze-winning squad. Arjun Bhagat, another bronze medalist in Junior Boys at the West Zone, delivered a composed performance to upset top seed Nishant Shenai 21-19, 21-18 and capture the Men’s Singles title, while Sufiya Shaikh (3), another junior player, maintained her fine run of form, defeating the experienced Anjana Kumari 21-17, 21-19 to claim the Women’s Singles crown.
In the Women’s Doubles, second seeds Shreya Mehta and Yasmin Sayed recovered from a shaky start to outplay Sufiya and Tabassum Shaikh 15-21, 21-11, 21-10 in a high-quality final.
