Bureaucrats have been tasked with the responsibility of ensuring readiness at all venues of the 37th National Games Goa, revealed Sports Minister Govind Gaude.
After inspecting the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium at Navelim, Gaude said that a venue commandant has been appointed at every venue along with an assistant commandant who will be at the bureaucrat level. As overall Goa in-charge, revenue secretary Sandeep Jacques is closely monitoring all the preparedness of the venues, he added. Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar was also present along with other officials during the inspection.
Roll-ball, netball and basketball events will be conducted at the indoor stadium at Navelim. Roll-ball will be staged from 23rd to 28th October, while netball will be held from 30th October to 3rd November; and basketball from 4th November to 8th November.
“As far as Navelim complex is concerned, it will have a dining area, satellite kitchen, athletes lounge, halls, etc. It will be an ideal venue for executing these disciplines in Goa. Preparations are at a warfooting. Completing venues is not the only concern, we need to look into spectators concerns as well like stands, parking, demarcation, etc. So, we are getting ready all these aspects by 21 October. For the shift of disciplines, we have kept a buffer of 1 day for the set-up change,” said the Sports Minister.
“Fatorda venue is ready in terms of sporting infrastructure, only the opening ceremony designing, VIP, green lounges, is under way. Also, lawn tennis infrastructure work will be completed by Saturday evening as it was held up due to rain. Even the Illumination is ready and as per the flux requirement,” he added.
Gaude said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Games at Fatorda stadium. Apart from the inauguration, there will be entertainment as well as many programmes, including singers from Goa. Olympic gold winner Neeraj Chopra will lead the torch relay, he said.
