Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant emphasised the importance of going in for early diagnosis of cancer as detection at the initial stages proves beneficial in terms of health and minimizing cost of treatment.
Observing Padmini P. Sawant’s birth anniversary, Dr Sawant elaborated on Padmini Foundation’s work to advance causes close to her heart, notably – women empowerment, education, healthcare, and rural welfare all aimed at building a more inclusive and caring society.
The Chief Minister underlined Cancer Awareness Talk by Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Senior Oncologist at Manipal Hospital, as the highlight of the celebration.
“Early Diagnosis of cancer saves life! Early detection gives almost normal life in almost 95% of patients. It also saves the organ and family spends less money on treatment. The government gives support through DDSSY scheme,” stated the Chief Minister.
Dr. Salkar’s session emphasised the critical importance of early detection, lifestyle changes, and preventive strategies; and was well-received by students and staff alike. “Maximum money is spent in advanced stage of the disease,” said Dr Salkar.
Vishwas Mangaonkar, Sandeep Naik, Saeeli Naik were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in service and dedication.
