PANAJI: Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Margao, took the first step to mark 60 years of its establishment by digitally launching a commemorative logo at the hands of the longest-serving Teaching and Non-Teaching staff members, Harish S.S. Nadkarni and Mohandas R. Naik respectively, on 9 June 2022.

The commemorative logo is the first of many events planned for the coming Academic Year as part of the CC@60 (Chowgule College at 60) agenda. The college was established in June 1962 by Vishwasrao Chowgule at the Military Barracks vacated by the Portuguese Army at Gogol, Margao and later shifted to their current campus in 1972.

The college is named after Vishwasrao’s mother and was inaugurated by then Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, Lakshmi N. Menon. Speaking about college’s achievements, the Officiating Principal, Dr. Shaila R. Ghanti thanked the college faculty for being steadfast in testing times and always making the college proud with their glorious accomplishments as the college was recently awarded A+ Grade during its fourth cycle by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) which is an autonomous body under UGC. The college is also Goa’s only ‘Autonomous’ institute where it was conferred autonomy way back in 2014.

Moreover, Chowgule College was also adjudged as the ‘Best Affiliated College’ during Goa University’s Silver Jubilee Year in 2010. The Dean of Arts Dr. Sachin Moraes while talking about the CC@60 initiative highlighted the need to work together and re-connect with the Chowgule College extended family of alumni and former teachers as Harshad Sawant, the designer of the commemorative logo revealed the design philosophy behind the logo- minimalist, concise and striking.

Harish S.S. Nadkarni and Mohandas R. Naik, both of whom have completed almost 40 years of their service in Chowgule College marvelled at the illustrious history of students and teachers that the college has produced. The event was brought to a close after the formal Vote of Thanks by the Vice-Principal, Dr. Ananya Das who spoke about the college’s foundation and saluted the vision of Vishwasrao Chowgule in creating an educational institute that has always centred on using technical innovations in pedagogy and facilitating life-long learning, stated a press release.
