In a move aimed at enhancing the cyber safety skills of the students, the Goa SCPCR with CyberPeace, supported by NITI Aayog, Atal Innovation Mission and CISCO; recently unveiled a specialised cybersecurity training programme. This initiative, which took off at St. Joseph Vaz High School, was graced by Peter F. Borges, Chairperson of Goa SCPCR, and Major Vineet Kumar, Global President of CyberPeace.
The training session, designed as a comprehensive, one-day workshop for students in grades 8 through 12, aims to impart critical knowledge on cybersecurity basics, safe internet usage, and the nuances of social media literacy. The programme will be conducted in five schools across Goa, including St. Joseph Vaz High School, Sancoale; Ravindra Kelekar Dyanmandir, Margao; Our Lady of Fatima High School, Rivona; Our Lady Mother of Poor High School, Quepem; and St. Francis Xavier High School, Korgao from 20th to 22nd February 2024. Each school will see 100 students participating in engaging lessons delivered by CyberPeace’s adept trainers, enriched with real-life case studies and interactive activities.
An unique aspect of this initiative is the Digital Resource Hub, which will serve as a repository of learning materials to further aid the students’ educational journey. The programme’s impact and the students’ grasp of the topics will be assessed through structured evaluations.
Peter F. Borges highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating: “In today’s digital era, where cyber threats loom large, it’s imperative that our students are equipped with the armor of knowledge and skills to navigate the online world safely. This program is a beacon of hope, aiming to strengthen the digital resilience of our children.”
Echoing this sentiment, Major Vineet Kumar emphasised the collaborative effort behind this programme, “By bringing together the expertise of CyberPeace with the visionary support of the Goa SCPCR, NITI Aayog, and the Atal Innovation Mission, we are setting a new standard for cyber education. Our goal is not just to educate but to empower our students to become responsible netizens.”
This collaborative initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to building a digitally literate and secure community among the students of Goa. It underscores the commitment of the Goa SCPCR and its partners to invest in the future by equipping the next generation with the tools and knowledge necessary for digital success and safety.
