Devesh Naik of Ponda Taluka Chess Association won the 1st Monsoon Cup All-Goa Open Rapid Chess tournament organised by Queens Chess and Cultural Club at Mahalaxmi temple hall, Panaji. He scored 7 points from 8 rounds.
WCM Swera Braganca of Tiswadi Taluka CA and Mandar Lad of Bardez Taluka CA with 7 points each, were placed second and third respectively.
Rishikesh Parab with 7 points, WCM Gunjal Chopdekar, Asmita Ray and Vivaan Ballikar with 6.5 points each were placed in the 4th to 7th position respectively.
Sarthak Naik and Vania Dukle (U7), Rishit Gawas and Skyla Rodrigues (U9), Sairaj Narvenkar and Lyia Silveira (U11), Sahil Shetty and Grisha Singbal (U13), Sahil Naik and Alana Andrade ((U15), Kanak Moye (Best Woman), Aryan Uscoiker and Disha Malgaonkar (Best Tiswadi player); and Prasad Naik (Best Veteran) were the various age-category event winners. Evan Telles was awarded the Youngest Player prize.
Chief Guest Rukhma Quenim gave away the prizes in the presence of Goa Chess Association (GCA) President, Mahesh Candolkar. GCA Vice-President, Dr. Satyawan Harmalkar, Atish Angle, Queens Club Secretary Sarika Chopdekar, Treasurer Vishala Shetty, members Dr. Rekha Poduwal, Teja Hadkonkar and Renuka Hawal also presented the prizes. Dr. Brendon Peroz spoke about his Chess journey and how it helped him in his medicine career. Dr. Pradnya Kakodkar compered the function along with Gunjal Chopdekar and Tanvi Hadkonkar.
President of Queens Chess and Cultural Cub, Dr. Roopa Belurkar outlined the club activities. Chief Arbiter FA Nandhini Mhamal read out the Arbiters report. Sunetra Dagare proposed the vote of thanks.
