‘Empowering People Limitless’ was the new meaning of ‘EPL’ in the words of the Secretary of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Taha Haaziq as he praised the global packaging solutions-provider based at Kundaim for employing Goan persons with disabilities (PwDs).
The EPL Plant has eight hearing-impaired ‘deaf and determined’ including one woman, working happily in the factory. The EPL officials including their global HR boss hailed the PwDs employees for their focus and productivity levels and thus sent out a heartwarming and inspiring message across to other industries to follow suit. At a programme to announce their initiative, all eight PwDs employees were felicitated with Taha Haaziq presenting them the token of appreciation.
Taha Haaziq highlighted that inclusion of persons with disabilities is all about trying to fit in the individuals based on their ability like for example a hearing-impaired can work in optimum ways on a shop floor where there is noise on account of the processing machinery. He also appealed to the local companies to come forward and that his office will be happy to put them in touch with relevant job-candidates.
Disabilities Rights Association of Goa founder Avelino de Sa welcomed the EPL support and called on other corporates to provide employment opportunities for the persons with disabilities.
President of the Goa association for the deaf, Anant Joshi expressed satisfaction that a beginning has been made with the first group of hearing-impaired now being financially empowered. He was confident that this will be a huge advertisement of the skills that PwDs possess and with that, the inclusion endeavour will receive tremendous lift.
