PANAJI: Road2Goa, FC Goa’s five-a-side tournament for the amateur stars of Goa is set to come to a conclusion on Saturday (May 7) at Salvador do Mundo Panchayat Ground as 14 teams are set to fight it out for glory.
The winners and runners-up of the tournament are set to receive INR 2 lakhs and INR 1.5 lakhs respectively. The last week saw 24 men’s team fight it out in South Goa whilst 12 men’s team took to the field to pave their road to glory in the North. On the women’s side 6 teams fought it out at Kicks Arena in Loutolim.
Limon FC, Bulls Arena, Qutray Boys and Amigos de Clark moved into the finale from the South having won their respective groups whilst La Masia FC, KFC, Rebello Brothers and Blacklist also made it to Salvador. Meanwhile in the North, Saligao Mai Dei Deus, Dzire 7, Aquila FC and Poriem FC were the ones to qualify.
The group stages saw 90 games being played in the men’s tournament with 310 goals scored over the period. Meanwhile, 12 games in the women’s tournament saw 27 goals being drilled in.
Aquila FC looked like the standout team in the initial phase with 26 goals to their name with Nicholas Fernandes leading the line with 9 goals. Dzire 7’s Saish Kavlekar meanwhile came out as the top scorer of the first phase with 13 goals to his name.
On the women’s side, the final will be between Blinks FC and ABC 13 Maina with Blink’s Stessi Cardozo coming through as the highest scorer of the group stage.
Who will finally come out with the winners trophy and the big cheque? Who will get a chance to trial with FC Goa for the Futsal team? All will be answered on Saturday as all roads to glory lead to Salvador do Mundo.
