The Day 2 of the 24th World IPCA (International Physically Disabled Chess Association) Individual Chess Championship witnessed an impressive display of skill and strategy as top-seeded players asserted their dominance in Round 2 of this prestigious tournament being hosted for the first time in Asia.

International Master (IM) Molenda Marcin of Poland, the tournament’s top seed, continued his winning momentum by defeating Gayimnazarov Bahadir of Uzbekistan in a commanding 37-move battle with the black pieces, employing the Sicilian Defence on the top board.

On the second board, FIDE Master (FM) Sargissyan Sargis of Armenia triumphed over Kishinbyeger Mijgee of Mongolia, while on board three, FM Lipilin Ilia of FIDE outplayed Doan Thu Huyen of Vietnam in a tightly contested match.

At the end of Round 2, a total of 15 players lead with a perfect score of 2 points. This includes four Indian players — Ezhilarasi G, Vaibhav Gautam, FM Venkata Krishna Karthik K., and Parmarthi Audietya Azadh — alongside six FIDE players: Anfinogenov Artem, FM Lipilin Ilia, Zakharova Evgeniya, Alekseev Mikhail, Gedgafov Chamal, and Dzenisenia Mikhail. Also in joint lead are Ayapov Alimzhan and Maikenov Bakytzhan from Kazakhstan, IM Molenda Marcin (Poland), FM Sargissyan Sargis (Armenia), and Ergashev Ilkhom (Uzbekistan).

Beyond competitive spirit, the day was marked by emotional and inspiring moments that highlighted the essence of the championship — celebrating ability beyond disability. One of the most heart-touching stories was that of Eshmuratov Abbas from Uzbekistan, who is participating in the tournament by using only eye-retina movements to control the board. His presence and determination have captivated spectators and inspired fellow participants, reminding everyone of the true spirit of resilience and the unifying power of sport.

The 24th World IPCA Chess Championship continues till July 31, 2025, at the International Centre Goa, with 97 participants from 17 countries competing in this landmark event supported by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa, and the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Goa.
