Giants Group of Porvorim celebrated its 20 years of existence recently, emphasising its commitment to service to the community and with it, the nation! Affiliated to the Giants Welfare Foundation, an NGO founded by the legendary late Nana Chudasama in 1972 (formerly known as Giants International) and now led by Shaina NC, the director; the Porvorim unit has been full of enthusiasm to take up projects looking after the welfare of communities, environment conservation, heritage and sports among others.
The most heartening aspect of the Giants Group of Porvorim outfit is the presence of majority of senior citizens and glaring lack of youth. The unit on its part, does not leave a stone unturned to achieve the goal of their activity. Yet, it is necessary for youth to join in and inculcate in them the spirit of co-operation, selfless Social Service to take up the responsibility of keeping the good work going if not infuse more energy and spread the word via their social media skills, which are mostly focussed on self-gratification or sharing online abuse.
When asked about the missing numbers of youth in the ranks, one active senior member lamented their disinterest in the group projects that demand a sense of responsibility and honest efforts.
Marching into the third decade since its inception, Giants Group of Porvorim hopes that their work will inspire the new generation and a transition will take place true to the spirit of the word ‘Giants’ – the acronym for Generosity, Integrity, Action, Nobility, Truthfulness & Service. In the celebratory moment though, the closely-knit unit felicitated the livewires of Founding members among others while also inducting a youth to make a fresh beginning!
