Goa Animal Federation (GAF) has thanked Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and his Cabinet for approving 4-acre land in Usgao, South Goa; to build a world class sterilisation centre for Animal Birth Control surgeries. This undoubtedly is a major step in developing much needed additional sterilization capacity in Goa to control the growing community dog population, states a press release.
The centre will be constructed by the Worldwide Veterinary Services Goa (WVS), a leading animal welfare NGO in Goa, and a member of GAF. The new centre of WVS will have a capacity to do over 15 thousand sterilizations, annually.
This will more than double the existing combined capacity of all NGOs in Goa that currently carry out approximately 15,000 sterilization surgeries annually in Goa.
“Not only will this new WVS center be instrumental in controlling community dog population in Goa but will also be used to train hundreds of veterinary surgeons and vet assistants to conduct sterilization surgeries all over India”, said Stacy Sequeira, Director of WVS, Goa.
Goa is already leading the country in being rabies-controlled since 2021 and with this new project will also be a leading state in the country to manage and control its community dog population, said GAF spokesperson, Vijendra Gairola. GAF and its 40,000 supporters also thanked Vijai Sardesai, Fatorda MLA for his support for this project.
