PANAJI: Goa women’s team won the silver medal at the All-India Inter-Zonal Tennis Ball Cricket Championship held in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, from 3rd to 5th July 2022. They lost the final against Mumbai, to finish runners-up. The championship was organised by Tamil Nadu Tennis Ball Cricket Association in collaboration with Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of India, states a press release.
Goa batted first and posted a total of 83/4 in 8 overs. Amisha Shetgaonkar (20 runs) and Sharada Arondekar (13 runs) were the highest run-getters. In reply, Mumbai sailed to victory, 84/4 in 7.5 overs.
Goa women’s team was coached by Nilesh Naik, SAG coach; while the team was led by Vinkita Naik.
Over in the men’s event, Goa went down in the quarter-final. Facing a stiff challenge from Kerala bowlers, the Goa batters managed 39/6 in 6 overs. Anil Goswami with 11 runs and Vallabh Naik (10) reached double figures. In reply, Kerala scored a one-sided win, as they finished with 40/0 in 5.2 overs.
