After a month-long training camp in Panaji ahead of the 4th edition of Prime Volleyball League (PVL), a confident Goa Guardians outfit took off for their debut in the top-flight league to be held in Hyderabad from 2nd October.
One of the most explosive players of Goa Guardians, Chirag Yadav shared the upbeat mood among the boys. “Our target is to win the trophy. We have a well balanced team and I hope we will win,” stated Chirag, who plays as a Outside Hitter shouldering the responsibility of being the key offensive player.
Awarded ‘Best Player of the Year’ prize, the Indian Navy spiker hailed Goa Guardians coach TC Jothish, former India coach and currently helming the Railways.
“Jothish sir is very experienced and very calm. As such, we can speak openly to him without any qualms,” said the 24-year-old Haryana star, who represented Calicut Heroes in PVL.
The squad is full of national and international talent. Aravindhan S, who plays in the setter position, said: “The training sessions at Don Bosco Oratory, Panaji, over the past month were good. The team was performing well and the practice sessions were excellent. Goa Guardians is a new franchise and it’s great that more players get a chance to participate in the volleyball league.”
