In order to build consensus across industry stakeholders on the proposed revisions to Goa-IDC Act & Goa-IDC regulations, Goa-IDC held a day-long consultative workshop with industry bodies such as GSIA, GCCI, CII-Goa State Council, FICCI, Laghu Udyog Bharati – Goa Chapter and ASSOCHAM.
The measures were aimed at reducing regulatory burden, standardising processes and ensuring clarity and consistency in all the Act and Regulations. These reforms are expected to give an immense boost to investments in the State of Goa and create employment opportunities for the youth.
The workshop was led by Pravimal Abhishek IAS, MD, Goa-IDC in which deep insights were provided to the industry bodies on the proposed reforms and their feedback elicited. Mauvin Godinho, Minister for Transport, Industries, Panchayat Raj, Protocol and Member of the GST Council also addressed the workshop and assured the industry stakeholders that no stone shall remain unturned to enhance ease of doing business in Goa.
Godinho said:“To enhance the ease of doing business, the Goa-Industrial Development Corporation has undertaken the task of revising the laws governing its functioning. Our aim is to create a conducive environment that encourages investment, spurs innovation and fosters sustainable economic growth. With these reforms, Goa will be able to attract more investments and become the hub for logistics and warehouses”.
The briefing marked a momentous occasion as industry leaders, policymakers, and regulatory authorities came together to deliberate on the transformative reforms introduced by the Goa-IDC. At the forefront of the discussion was the overarching goal of enhancing the ease of doing business within the region by revising the legislative framework that governs the operations of Goa-IDC.
Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Chairman, Goa-IDC expressed his enthusiasm about the reforms, stating: “We are doing everything possible to ensure ease of doing business so that more employment and entrepreneurship opportunities are created for Goan youth. This legal reform is one of the major steps in our endeavours.“
Godinho engaged extensively with the assembled stakeholders, underscoring the key reforms that are set to redefine industrial operations in Goa. These reforms include:
•Liberalization of Transfer and Sub-Lease: The new framework seeks to empower businesses by streamlining transfer and sub-lease processes, enabling smoother transitions and fostering a dynamic business ecosystem
•Simplification and Standardisation of Procedures: Recognising the need for operational efficiency, the revised laws will introduce simplified and standardised procedures that eliminate bottlenecks and reduce bureaucratic hurdles
•Industrial Status for Logistics and Warehousing: The Goa-IDC recognises the critical role of logistics and warehousing in modern business operations. By granting them industrial status, the corporation ensures that this sector receives the necessary support and recognition.
