PANAJI: Following their recent success in the friendly series against hosts Maharashtra, Goa will leave for Delhi tonight with a confident frame of mind ahead of the premier tournament for the visually impaired, ‘Nagesh Trophy Blind Cricket Tournament’ to be held from November 17 to 25 and will feature teams from 24 states.
Goa will play league matches against Manipur (Nov 17), Jammu & Kashmir (Nov 18), Chandigarh (Nov 19), Telangana (Nov 20) and against Rajasthan (Nov 21).
In the fourth season of Nagesh Trophy, Goa will be captained by Akshay Borikar while Dipraj is the vice-captain.
Goa captain Akshay expressed confidence that his team will perform very well and will try to win the Nagesh Trophy. He also thanked Bank of India for giving a special leave of absence to play.
Goa’s strength lies in their batting department with openers Akshay and Ashitosh Mavaskar forming the strongest part of the batting order. Akshay Borikar, who plays for India Blind Team, will also look to put in a great performance in this year’s Nagesh Trophy as he will be judged in view of next year’s World Cup. Bowling is spearheaded by Yashwant Nageshkar Afatab S.
