PANAJI: The inter-university colloquium on implementation of NEP 2020 guidelines for Law Degree Programmes, was held at Goa University on 22nd June 2022. The colloquium was an initiative of the Goa University and the Central University of Kerala, Kasargod in association with the Department of Law, Thiruvalla Campus, Central University of Kerala, V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Panaji and G.R.Kare College of Law, Margao-Goa.
The welcome address was delivered by Sheila D’Souza, Dean, Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy. D’Souza stressed on the need for the University to adopt outcome-based learning, learner-centric approach while teaching the learners. She also spoke on humanising the constitutional values so as to bring the Goa University on par with the other law colleges in India.
The key note address was delivered by Harilal Menon, Vice-Chancellor, Goa University; who was also the Chief Guest at the colloquium. In his address, he highlighted the fact that information is easily available to the learners but how to tap the resources is the main idea that needs to be discussed under NEP 2020. He stated that education previously used to be teacher-centric and it was more aimed at emotional learning. We need to give importance to the creative thinking among students, he reiterated.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Jayashankar, Assistant Professor, Central University of Kerala. He thanked the Goa University and the two law colleges for actively cooperating with the organisation of the inter-collegiate colloquium. He also appreciated the efforts put up by Dr. Marian Pinheiro, Ex- Dean Faculty of Law and Ex- Principal of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law. Also present for the inaugural function was Dr. Girish Kumar, Ex-HoD, Central University Kerala, Kasargod.
The first technical session was by Dr. G. Shaber Ali, Officiating Principal, V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Panaji. He spoke about the measures to improve the ratio of Higher Education courses. The second resource person was Dr. Saba Da Silva, Professor and Principal, G.R. Kare college of Law, Margao-Goa. He spoke about Skill training in legal education- A Goan experience.
Dr. Jayashankar of the Central University, Kerala; spoke at length about the strategy for development of implementation of NEP in the Universities and its Departments. Dr. Girish, Ex- HoD of the Kerala University, spoke at length about the facilities that are adopted by Kerala University and the facilities provided by the Goa University to the learners and highlighted the practical difficulties that are faced by the teachers in the effective implementation of the NEP.
