GOANS SHOWCASE BEST PRACTICES & INITIATIVES AT AKHIL BHARTIYA SHIKSHA SAMAGAM

 The Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam, held at ITPO, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, marked the grand celebration of the 3rd Anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The event was organised to showcase the best practices and initiatives implemented at the Higher Education level, presented by officials from the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) and Goa State Higher Education Council (GSHEC).

Day 1 – Inauguration and Plenary Sessions: The event commenced with an auspicious inauguration ceremony, featuring speeches by key dignitaries. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, emphasised the significance of NEP 2020 in transforming the education landscape of India. He stressed the importance of innovation, research, and inclusivity in the education system to create a skilled and empowered workforce for the nation’s progress.

The plenary sessions featured experts from esteemed institutions and research centers such as UGC, AICTE, IISC, IITs, NITs, AICTE,  discussing various aspects of the NEP 2020 and its implementation at the national and state levels. Officials from DHE and GSHEC presented their best practices in higher education, sharing successful initiatives that have positively impacted students and institutions in Goa.

Day 2 – Parallel Sessions and State Stall Presentations: The second day of the event saw parallel sessions, with various topics related to NEP 2020 and higher education being discussed concurrently. Participants had the opportunity to engage in fruitful discussions and exchange ideas with experts and peers from different regions.

The Goa State stall at the convention centre, garnered attention, where the Goa team presented their best practices and initiatives to Vice Chancellors, Directors of various institutions, Industries, faculty and students. They showcased innovative approaches in teaching methodologies, research, and student support systems. The stall became a hub for knowledge-sharing, and many attendees were impressed by the Goa education system’s achievements.

Highlights of the Event:

  • Thought-provoking thematic sessions & discussions on NEP 2020 and its impact on the education sector in : Access to Quality Education and Governance, Equitable and Inclusive education , Innovation and Entrepreneuship,National Institutional Ranking Framework(NIRF), Digital empowerment & capacity building, Indian Knowledge System, road-map to Competency based assessment, Holistic education through Integration of skilling , industry connect and Employbility among other topics..
  • The presence of the Prime Minister,  Narendra Modi, added significance and motivation to the event.
  • Networking opportunities for academicians, Vice-Chancellors, and Directors from across the country.
  • Goa State stall received appreciation for their innovative education practices.
  • Presentation of 10 best practices and initiatives by DHE and GSHEC  in areas like:

1) DISHTAVO: Online Academic E-Content Portal giving access to the prescribed  syllabus of State University100% UG syllabus available online. 27,700 videos available Konkani recording in progress

2) Faculty Internships at IIT-Goa, GIM-Sanquelim (5 months internship). Started from August 2022

3) Goa State Research Foundation established for developing research talent

4)Outcome based Education (OBE) Orientation programme to college faculty: 1600+   faculty are trained.

5) NEP 2020 implemented in all non-technical colleges

6) Improving quality of higher education through NAAC accreditation and  Ranking of all  HEIs in the State:  61% of accredited colleges have A or A+ grades

7) Research & Development Cells (R&D) and 8) Teaching & Educational Technology Cells established in all Colleges

8) MOOC Courses developed: 2 completed and submitted to CEC, Delhi. More in progress

9) Training, Internships & Placements: Centralized placements done. 11 MoUs signed with  TCS, Newton School, NavGurukul, Mugafi (UNLU), IBM, etc.

10) Centralized academic management system: Online admissions, online fee payment, etc. Currently 40 colleges are integrated.

The Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of NEP 2020 was a resounding success. The event provided a platform for sharing best practices and experiences in higher education, inspiring stakeholders to work towards the collective goal of achieving excellence in the Indian education system. With the vision set by NEP 2020 and the dedication of educators and policymakers, India moves forward on a path of holistic and transformative education for its citizens.
