PANAJI: Goa Yachting Association’s Katya Coelho won the gold medal in the IQ Foil Women’s Class at the YAI’s Asian Games Selection Trials held in Mumbai. As such, the Goan sailor secured her top spot and the chance to represent India at the Asian Games in China, stated a press release.
Katya, who represented India in the Youth Olympics in 2014 and at the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, is the only Goan woman with this record achievement. She is now in line to follow into her brother Dayne Coelho’s footsteps as he as already secured a spot on Indian teams for the continental showpiece championships in RS:X Class.
Meanwhile at the same event, Dayne tried his luck at the IQ Foil Men’s class and won the Silver Medal for Goa behind Jerome of Army Yachting Node, who won the gold. Pearl Colvalcar of GYA who was participating in the Laser 4.7 youth Girls class, finished 5th.
