Goa’s largest stakeholders’ meet, in celebration of World Tourism Day, was held at the scenic Nandanvan Spice Farm, bringing together key figures from the tourism industry. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Minister of Tourism, Rohan A. Khaunte, GTDC Chairman Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar, Director of Tourism Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, and TTAG President Jack Sukhija and SKAL International Goa President, Vivek Kerker were among the distinguished dignitaries in attendance.
The event emphasised the vital collaboration between Goa’s tourism stakeholders, as they work hand-in-hand to shape the future of tourism in the state. Khaunte’s visionary leadership was lauded for his focus on implementing regenerative tourism practices that balance sustainability, environmental preservation, and community empowerment. A key component of his strategy is promoting hinterland tourism, rural experiences, and celebrating Goan culinary traditions, ensuring that tourists explore the diverse cultural richness beyond the coastline.
Dr Sawant highlighted the blend of Swayampurna Goa 2.0 and tourism in the form of hinterland resources promotion.
Speaking at the event, Khaunte said, “Goa is more than just its beaches. With regenerative tourism, we aim to create experiences that sustain our environment, preserve our heritage, and uplift local communities. Together with our stakeholders who are the ambassadors of tourism, we are committed to driving a tourism model that benefits everyone—visitors and locals alike. We need to connect with emerging markets by showcasing Goa as a destination with much more to offer than what has traditionally been highlighted. As Goans, I believe we take great pride in our heritage, and it’s crucial that we showcase it to the world. You, as leaders in the industry, will be the ones to drive business opportunities, create the right environment, and generate meaningful employment. When it comes to Goa, we must also emphasize responsibility—both in our actions and in promoting responsible tourism. The draft tourism bill, which is currently open for public discussion, addresses the gaps within the sector, and it’s important that we recognize and address these issues. On this World Tourism Day, I’m pleased to see the collaboration within the industry, especially in promoting eco-tourism, as exemplified by today’s gathering at Nandanvan Spice Farm. Together, we can shape a sustainable future for Goa’s tourism.”
Anchipaka highlighted the department’s goals, saying, “Our primary focus is on promoting responsible tourism that not only preserves and nurtures the environment but also strengthens and uplifts our local communities. Through regenerative tourism practices, we are dedicated to offering travelers a truly authentic Goan experience—one that goes beyond the surface and allows them to connect with our rich cultural and natural heritage. At the same time, we are committed to protecting these invaluable assets for future generations, ensuring that tourism in Goa remains sustainable, community-driven, and environmentally conscious.”
