Ministry of Mines has released the State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI) and State rankings, and Goa has been clubbed with Uttar Pradesh and Assam in top three in Category B.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant hailed the achievement, saying: “This is an acknowledgment of Goa’s consistent focus on transparency, sustainability, and ease of doing business in the mining sector.

“In recent months, we have conducted transparent auctions of mining blocks, paving the way for the sector’s revival while addressing logistics challenges and improving overall efficiency.

“Our Government remains firmly committed to ensuring that Goa’s mining sector grows responsibly, creating value, employment, and long-term prosperity for our people.”

The structure of the index comprises indicators like auction performance, early mine operationalization, thrust on exploration and sustainable mining pertaining to non-coal minerals, which are relevant to underlining State performance in the mining sector.

Under the SMRI, States were grouped into three categories on the basis of their mineral endowment. The top three ranked States in Category A are Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. In Category C, the top three ranks have been obtained by Punjab, Uttarakhand and Tripura.
