Gurudas Kunde, 88-year old veteran freedom fighter, has been unanimously elected the President of the Goa, Daman & Diu Freedom Fighters’ Association.
In a major decision at the general body meeting of the association, the aged freedom fighters amended its constitution to co-opt children of freedom fighters on the committee of the association, to take ahead the unaccomplished tasks related to problems faced by the aged freedom fighters.
Accordingly, Sandesh Prabhudesai, son of freedom fighter couple late Shobha and Manohar Prabhudesai, has been elected as the Secretary of the FFA.
The association has also co-opted five more sons of the freedom fighters on the committee, to help the aged freedom fighters in their activities from North Goa and South Goa districts.
Sanjay Krishnarao Prabhudesai, a freedom fighter from Pernem, has been elected the Vice President while Rohidas Desai, another freedom fighter from Cuncolim, will be the treasurer.
The sons of freedom fighters elected on the executive committee are Vijay D’Souza as the Joint Secretary, Avinash Shirodkar and Prashant Naik as the South Goa representatives and Subhas Naik Jorge and Raghunath Desai as the executive committee members.
The FFA also discussed various difficulties faced by the freedom fighter families, especially some widows whose pension has been stopped by the central government after the sad demise of their husbands, states a press release issued by Sandesh Prabhudesai, General Secretary.
