ICAR-CCARI ORGANISES INDUSTRY-SCIENTIST INTERFACE ON AI & IoT APPLICATIONS IN AQUACULTURE

0

ICAR CCARI Goa organised an industry–scientist interface to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT) in aquaculture. The session featured Business Kendra, developers of BlueTechFins, a real-time water quality monitoring system. A BlueTechFins unit was installed in one of the institute’s ponds to showcase its field-level applicability.

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, underscored the transformative role of AI and ML in achieving Smart, Climate-Resilient Coastal Agriculture by 2047. Trivesh Mayekar, Scientist (FGB), highlighted digital applications in aquaculture such as real-time water quality monitoring, biomass estimation, automated feeding, and adaptive water management. He emphasised the need for cost-effective smart solutions tailored to different systems like cages, tanks, lakes, and wetlands.

Dr. Sreekanth G.B. stressed the importance of developing farmer-friendly, sustainable, and affordable smart technologies, particularly for small and marginal farmers. The visiting team from Business Kendra actively interacted with scientists, sharing technical insights and discussing field-level customisation of digital tools.

Participants also visited a traditional Khazan land aquaculture site, where discussions focussed on adapting AI–IoT systems for climate-resilient aquaculture in salt-affected and ecologically sensitive zones.

The program showcased the promise of public–private partnerships in advancing smart aquaculture and was jointly coordinated by Trivesh Mayekar, Dr. Sreekanth G.B., and Harshvardhan Shetye, ICAR-CCARI.
