Seven renowned doctors from Indian Medical Association Goa State, have executed the Advanced Medical Directives (AMD) – better known as ‘Living Will’, states a press communique issued by the President of Indian Medical Association Goa State, Dr. Sandesh Chodankar.
The medico-legal development came through on Sunday, 15th December 2024 at an event held in Ponda with the function being presided over by Dr Sandesh Chodankar.
Doctors who have signed the AMD are Dr Sandesh Chodankar, IMA Goa State President (2024); Dr Dattaram Desai, President-Elect (2025); Dr Santosh Usgaonkar, Chairman Dilasa Trust; Dr Shekhar Salkar, Past President of IMA Goa State (2010); Dr Medha Salkar, Past President IMA Goa State (2017); Dr Pornima Usgaonkar and Dr Kalpana Chodankar.
MLA of Bicholim, Dr Chandrakant Shetye graced the event as the Chief Guest. Dr Deep Bhandare and other office-bearers of IMA Goa State, were also present.
The press statement further noted that Goa has successfully implemented a mechanism to execute an Advanced Medical Directive which enables citizens to register a Living Will to ensure dignity in final moments of life. The doctors urged the public to come forward and understand the intricacies of Advanced Medical Directives or ‘Living Will’ and take an informed decision to ensure healthcare preferences are honoured and dignity of life is maintained.
