The annual report of various activities and undertaken by the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities for the year 2022-2023 was released by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Social Welfare Minister, Subhash Phal Dessai.
Sandhya Kamat, Director, Directorate of Social Welfare, Guruprasad Pawaskar, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and Taha Haaziq, Secretary, Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, were present on this occasion.
Sawant praised the innovative work carried out by the State Commissioner for PwDs Guruprasad Pawaskar and assured his wholehearted support for Commission’s activities. This annual report includes details about numerous initiatives undertaken by the Commission in addition to the “Purple Fest.”
The state government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to integrate the persons with disabilities into the mainstream society. Additionally, Sawant stated that the state government is striving hard to improve accessibility for people with disabilities in the state.
Pawaskar said, “The current commission started its service in January 2022. In the one-year duration, the Commission has made great strides in upholding its mission and vision. The Commission has notably worked on broad categories such as : Awareness and Sensitisation, Accessibility of public infrastructure, Inclusive Education, Disability Certification and UDID registrations”.
